The Pieces That Resist a Category
Vintage & Curiosities

Not everything sealed away in a Cairo villa fits neatly into furniture or silver or porcelain. This is where the harder-to-place pieces live — travel cases, decorative oddities, objects whose original purpose sometimes takes a little research to confirm. What they share is provenance, not category. Each one still has a story attached, even if we're still working out exactly what it is.

Did You Know? Among the most sought-after curiosities from Khedivial-era estates are leather travel cases bearing hotel labels from the grand circuit — Shepheard's in Cairo, the Winter Palace in Luxor, the Cecil in Alexandria — each label a provenance stamp in its own right.
