A clock that has run since the 1870s has outlived the hands that wound it, the room it first ticked in, several changes of address, and at least one revolution. The Odobez Comtoise in this collection carries its original documentation — provenance a clock rarely keeps intact. French horology found some of its finest patrons on the Nile, and what survives here is not nostalgia. It is a mechanism still doing exactly what it was built to do, in a country that never stopped needing to know the time.
